What's Your Favorite Sandwich?
Share Your Answer to the Ultimate Icebreaker.
Coming from Philly, everyone always asks me:
“Where’s the best cheesesteak — is it Pat’s, Geno’s, or John’s?”
Some might say Dalessandro’s.
But for me, it’s Pat’s.
Not just because of the steak itself, but because I remember flying down the Schuylkill Expressway — aka I-76 — late at night with my older stepbrother and his Upper Merion friends when I was younger. Windows down, rap music blaring, South Street beaming with intrigue, and the promise of a greasy, perfect cheesesteak waiting at the end of the ride. Wit wiz! It was euphoric.
But the more important question isn’t “what’s the best cheesesteak?” It’s …
What’s your favorite sandwich?
And yes, a Pat’s cheesesteak is my favorite sandwich — but I want to know yours.
Is a burger a sandwich?
How about a hot dog?
Does avocado toast count?
One might say a sandwich needs bread with meat or a primary protein in between it… But now there are lettuce wraps, and countless other variations that challenge the definition.
And that’s exactly why this question is magical. We all have a personal connection that leaves us hungry to share more and relive those moments when you first bit into that delicious deli treat.
The term “favorite sandwich” cuts right to the chase.
We all love food, and it brings us together. We can usually tell where you’re from based on your answer — which brings us together even more. And we quickly learn if you have dietary restrictions… because let’s be honest, if someone is vegan, they’re gonna tell us. The same goes for vegetarians and pescatarians — and there’s nothing wrong with that.
Maybe you’re old school and simply like a PB&J, with special jelly.
Maybe you’re allergic to peanut butter.
Maybe you’re a classic Italian hoagie kind of guy.
When my mother passed a few years ago, the other founding members sent me Pat’s cheesesteaks as a gift to cheer me up — and it all started because we knew each other’s favorite sandwich.
Just a heads up, Pat’s Steaks are available on Goldbelly, in case you ever wanted to try them.
So go ahead — share yours and honor your most self-contained and delicious meal.
Drop your favorite sandwich below in the comments and tell us why it’s amazing.
And while you’re at it, be sure to mention which condiments matter most.
Gratefully,
Stephen Seidel & The Gents

My top pick is the “Not so fried chicken sandwich” from a place called Mendocino Farms.
Gimme one of those bad-boys with pickled red onions and herb aioli on toasted ciabatta and I am GOOD TO GO BABY!
Love how you frame the 'favorite sandwich' question as a window into personal history and connection. There's something revealing about our favorites—they're not just about taste but about the memories and moments attached to them. That late-night drive to Pat's, the euphoria of anticipation, the ritual of it all. Our favorite foods become favorites because of these layers of meaning. They're comfort, nostalgia, and identity wrapped in two pieces of bread. And you're right that it's the perfect icebreaker because everyone has a story.
